Dates for the start of Kitchen remodel!

Well, this is how it goes, I was told the work will start on TUESDAY, February 11. . .after I hang up the phone I look at my calendar to mark the date and February 11 is a Monday. . .so I am thinking in my excitment I made the error, yesterday another call, I bring this up and the project coordinator said she would check and get back to me. Today I am told that the start date will be TUESDAY, February 12. . .that's more like it. Now this sets everything back a day and it will not be until the end of February until the water can be hooked up again, thank goodness February is a short month! I do not know how people can live through a complete home remodel project. . .I would not make it!

My cabinets are being emptied of things that I feel I must keep, even though I never use them, for example a very pretty canister set, I have collections of a lot of primitive things and vintage kitchen items, so I sort and will have a yard sale in the spring and some things I have tossed out. I plan on being very selective of what I will keep. I want my new kitchen to have a less primitive look with fewer collectibles this go round. Of course my style is a mix of primitive/upcountry/cottage, very eclectic. I hope I can pull this off! I guess by March I will know for sure and will keep everyone updated on the progress.

I guess my glass front cabinet will not be decorated for Valentine's Day this year. OK, so what holiday will be next, St. Patty's Day! I may have to go out and shop for something "green". . .

A New Kitchen

My kitchen how it looks today, I had the walls painted two years ago, paint chips, I found out, are not the same as the paint on the wall. I had chosen a soft golden buttery yellow and it was much, much brighter than I had expected. I have come to like the color, but will have to decide if I will keep it after the new cabinets and counters are installed. The side of the kitchen where the cabinets are does not have a lot of wall space, the eat in area does. But, I have time to decide and may change my mind at least 100 times.

This is the third week of waiting for the call about the installation of my new kitchen. Why does time fly by when you do not want it too and stands still at other times? I put off new cabinets and counters/appliances for a long, long time and now the waiting seems longer than the wait I had to make up my mind. My kitchen has lost its sparkle and is looking old and dated. Not vintage/quaint/charming old, but old and dated. I more or less knew the look I wanted so picking out the cabinets was easy as well as the counter top. It will not be a complete overhaul since my kitchen functions well with the layout. We are opting for a full size range in place of a built in wall oven and cooktop and I will get added counter space where the cooktop is installed. I picked out white cabinets, black antique knobs and those old fashion country style black drawer pulls that look like half-moons. That is the only way I know how to describe them. I have been removing all the "stuff" from my cabinets so when the call comes I will be ready. One corner cabinet will have a glass front door, this is what excites me most because I will be able to display my ironstone china and for different seasons/holidays add a little display. I am hoping this will be finished well before Easter because I have a great Easter Rabbit and some painted wooden eggs that will look so great in that cabinet with my ironstone china. Everyday I think about a new display for the cabinet, 4th of July, Fall, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, have I mentioned I love to "decorate" and move things around in my home? I am trying to be calm and taking one day at a time. I do not like a messy home, things have to be neat/tidy and clean. . .I guess I will have to tolerate the invasion of my house and the mess and in the end I hope it will all be worth it!

Where are you Spring-Time?

I am starting to long for warmer weather, the sounds of chirping birds and my beloved flower gardens. Where are you Spring-Time? I am waiting for your arrival. . .as we all must be in the colder climates.

A Surpise Visit

Today I was wishing that I would hear the doorbell ring and when I answered the door standing there would be an old friend - a surpise visit - I live in a neighborhood where everyone goes to work and my friends are far away, maybe I was having a case of the winter blahs, but I was wishing to have company. So, to chase away the blues I went to the Borders Bookstore and TJMaxx, it was nice to get out, but it would have been better if I had a friend to go with me, or just come over to visit.

Doll Collection

These are some of my favorite little dolls. They are displayed in an old china cabinet, the dark wood cabinet belonged to my Mother-In-Law and the pine one I found in an antique shop dowtown. I love to collect the old home-made Raggedy Ann dolls, I have more which I store and change them out every so often. I love the Indian Raggedy doll on the top of the dark cabinet. The little clown doll in the dark cabinet was a gift to my son when he was one year old, he is now 38! I love little dolls, baby style dolls, old home-made vintage Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls and my two Bluettes.

Running Away from Winter's Cold!

Our Pug, Zoe, has had enough of the cold winter weather, she is heading toward Florida. . .call me when you get there, send me a card! Hurry Home!

Another Favorite Place to Visit

FLORIDA . . .first because this is where two of my sons live and my grandchildren are there! When I visit them I not only get to enjoy being with them but I get to enjoy the beauty of the beaches, the downtown area and all the beautiful flowers. My brother and his family also live in Florida, I only wish that they all lived closer so when I went to visit I could see everyone at once. Florida, the sunshine state, yes indeed, because my children and their families are the sunshine of my life!!!

Where ever you go, whatever you do I will be there for you!

This is our little travel doll, a Raggedy Ann I had made a long time ago, I was going to list her on ebay, but for some reason my husband took a shine to her and she has become our little travel Annie. She has been to Florida where my grandson taught her how to "fly", she has had tea-parties with my grandson, she has been to Vermont and enjoyed her stay at the B&B Inns while we saw the sites and she has even gone to Seattle! So whenever we are going on a "long-trip" she is tossed in the travel bag and comes along. . .

One of my favorite places to visit is

VERMONT!

My son goes to school in Vermont and we enjoy visiting him up there. The drive is long, but the scenery makes it so enjoyable. Everytime I see the Church on the Commons it takes my breath away. . .each season it looks so peaceful.

My First Post on my Blog!

Hello everyone! I created a "blog" spot a few months ago, but never did anymore with it. Today I thought it would be a great day to get started, so this is my first post! I guess this is like writing in a diary, but you left it open and lost the key.

I am not to sure of what I am doing, but I love to try new things and half the fun is in learning.

Who am I? I sometimes wonder that myself. My name is Martha and I make dolls, love to "decorate" my house, love to garden, flower gardens that is and I am a Wife, a mother of 4 sons and one daughter and Grandmother to 3 charming/adorable little guys and one lovely granddaughter.

So, that is who I am for the outside world to see, but inside I am still a little girl of 10 who loves dolls and small china tea sets and swings, sitting on the grass, making a snowman and reading children's story books.
