Warm Winter Nights

The other day I finished re-doing the bedroom. I love to change out the bedding for the different seasons, all of my accessories go with what I have and I also have items that I pack away and bring out for a new look. I am happy with the way the room looks for the winter months.

The blanket folded at the foot of the bed was made by my grandmother and she had help making it by my mother! My mother had told me she was about 8 years old when she helped my grandmother with the carding and the spinning of the wool. She said then my grandmother wove the blanket. There were two large bands of dark blue color an two narrow ones at the end of the blanket, they have faded now to a soft gray color. I remember asking my mother about the blanket when I was in my late teens and she told me the story, after I was married I snatched the blanket and kept it packed away for safe keeping. I decided that since it has been around for so long without any damage I would use it on the bed. My mom passed away at the age of 96, it will be 9 years on June 15th. The blanket is about 97 years old! When I write this post it makes me remember so many, many fond memories of my mother. . .I would rather have her than the blanket, but since that cannot be when I make the bed in the morning I pause as I fold the blanket and think about her as a little girl helping her mother. I try to picture her as a little girl and think about the stories she told me about her childhood. The blanket keeps me warm, but the memory of her warms my heart!

Wishing everyone a warm and beautiful day!

What I have been doing

After Christmas and all the holiday decorations are put away I like to move things around in my house. I display some special snow people, but I also like to move furniture from room to room. It is fun and the cost is free. Since my belongings all seem to go together it is easy to mix and match up the rooms.

My biggest rearranging was the bedroom. I am enjoying the warmth of the room for the winter months and come spring and summer I will go back to the lighter look.

I hope everyone is well. We are having dreary weather, cold and rain. My son goes back to school on Saturday and after a few days of adjusting to not having him home I want to start working on my dolls again. The time has flown by during his visit, next time we see him will be in May for graduation, and I not only get to see him I get to go back to Vermont! This spring will more than likely be our last trip up that far North. I will miss that very, very much.

The doll show will be coming up and I want to enter a couple of them there, last year three of them won ribbons, so it is something to look forward to. If they do not win I still have the fun of looking at all the old dolls, and maybe this year the old Volland Raggedy Ann will be there again. I brought my camera last year but the dealer did not bring her, I wanted to take a picture of her! Do you think maybe I can talk my dear hubby into buying her for me if she is there? I doubt it :(, but if she is there it will be fun to hold her again!

This is a photo of one of my snowmen along with a vase my daughter in law gave me a few Christmases back, I sometime float candles in it, or put one large candle in it or else I can add winter greenery and when my daughter brings me my red winter tulips I put them in there. It functions in many fun ways.
Wishing everyone a great day!

Happy Birthday Three Year Old!

He LOVES to get surprise gifts in the mail! This gift was a toy that once belonged to his daddy!
So proud. . .with Daddy's help he swings across the monkey bars.

It is so much fun visiting a farm with his cousins and sister, especially when the farm is in Vermont and he gets to visit his Uncle!

Look at that sweet face! Happy Birthday Ashton, I miss you and love you very, very much. I wish I could be spending the day with you!
My grandchildren live in Florida and I live in New Jersey, so it is difficult to be able to spend time with them. I wish with all my heart we lived close to each other, but we try and visit as often as we can. Last year I had my two grandsons spend part of the summer with us and my son and his family flew home with their children to visit and we went to Vermont for a family vacation and got to visit with my son who goes to school there and was working last summer for the college. The times we spend together are so special. If you have your grandchildren nearby you are truly blessed, enjoy them! I wish mine were nearer to me, but they are always in my heart and mind!
Gamama loves you Ashton, Happy Birthday to you!
