Saturday Adventure

Today, even though it was bitter cold, my husband I decided to go out on an antiquing adventure. About 20 years ago I had gone to a great antique shop with my sister and decided today I wanted to go back there! Now, 20 years to some may seem like a long time ago, but in my mind, 20 years well things should have stayed pretty much the same! Even with directions from the web it took us an hour and half to find this place!

Our first stop was a doll shop filled with antique dolls and a doll museum! I should have been in my glory, but I was so hungry since I had not eaten and it was now nearly 2:00 so I asked if I could snap a few pictures and could they tell us of a place nearby to go eat. The lady in the shop was sweet, but she was a little chatter box! We finally made our way out the door, said we would be back after we ate and went to find the restaurant she told us about. We had a very nice late, late lunch, and by the time we finished and went back to where the doll shop and antique shop were it was getting late. We skipped going back into the doll shop, the prices were a wee bit above my pay scale, so we went into the antique store. The first thing to catch my eye was a wonderful quilt and a few nice Windsor chairs and quaint tables. . .I told my husband I was in my antique heaven, BUT I spoke too soon. The rest of the place was filled with glassware, china, tons of Christmas ornaments, I have a basement full of those, and jewelry, tons and tons of old jewelry! I was so disappointed, what happened to this wonderful shop that I had visited about 20 years ago, why did it change so much, where was the room that was filled with neat old prim stuff with affordable price tags. Twenty years. . .I don't feel I have changed that much, so why did this once upon-a-time great shop change? I purchased 5 old crocheted dish cloths, I love those and a reproduction wooden tray carrier thing which I will use on my dining room table. I did not want to leave empty handed! The dish cloths and tray were very cheap and I knew if I did not get them later I would wish I had.

The trip back home took use only 45 minutes and that was with stopping at the grocery store for a few items! I guess the road signs had changed too! I am happy I went back but I do not plan on going back any day soon, well maybe in another 20 years!

Here are a few photos of the dolls, the antique shop, the restaurant and the library in the town where all of this took place!

20 years ~sigh~ It doesn't seem so long ago does it? Every time I go back home I can't believe how I get lost because of the changes. Love the photos. You've made me want to visit some shops now.

Hi Martha ~ Sorry you didn't find things the way you remembered them, but it was nice you had a sweet lunch with your hubby. Hopefully the next time you venture out you will find a great store with wonderful affordable things.

Hi Martha, I just read your comment on my blog and wasn't sure if you realized that you are set up as "no reply", so I couldn't respond to your comment. The same thing happened to me and I couldn't figure out why a blogger wouldn't answer my question. Anyway, if you've been wondering, that's why. Hugs, Anne

Hello Martha!....it sounds like a very nice outing nonetheless!....thank you for your suggestions on my quest for a doll dress and a lamp shade....if I had a sewing machine I probably would give making a dress a try but I'm afraid I just wouldn't have the patience to try it by hand....enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening! Janet :)
